"THEY CANNOT TURN TO ME AND LET ME HEAL THEM"
Today, as I read this passage from Matthew 13, the word 'tragic' came to mind, accompanied by a deep sadness when reading the word "cannot". Curious, I looked in Strong's Concordance for the Greek transliteration and meaning. This is what I found: Greek: οὐ μή Transliteration: ou mē Pronunciation: oo may Definition: a double negative strengthening the denial, for example:
KJV Usage: Not (56x), in no wise (6x), no (6x), never (6x), No more at all (5x) Occurs: 97 times In: 84 verses Matthew 13:12, 14-15 NLT To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah that says, ‘When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend. For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears *cannot* hear, and they have closed their eyes-- so their eyes *cannot* see, and their ears *cannot* hear, and their hearts *cannot* understand, and they *cannot* turn to me and let me heal them." ----- Father, if we CANNOT see, hear, or understand your instructions, we have no hope. Or else, the hope we have is false. Is useless. Is in vain. Till the soil of our hearts and humble our wills, Holy Spirit. Let Your living and active Words fall on good, healthy soil, and bear Kingdom fruit. We choose to hear, see, and understand your Word. And then, strengthen us with resolve, that we will do it. AMEN.

(At Bent Tree Bible Fellowship the last Sunday of 2025, the message ended with a corporate prayer of commitment similar to this one --I modified it some to include some of my own longings for the days to come).
Holy Spirit, I adore you. I need you desperately in this next year. Enlighten me, guide me, strengthen me, console me. Tell me what I should do; speak the Father's words into my heart. Let me hear them deeply. I commit myself to submission to all that you desire of me, and to acceptance of all that you permit to happen to me. Let me only know and do your will. I freely and heartily yield all things to You--for Your pleasure or disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I belong to You. And You are my Life. And the covenant that I have made with You here on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Put me to the Kingdom tasks you want for me. Put me with the influences that will challenge me to stay faithful to you. Let me be set apart for your hands only--whether I am exalted for your purposes or brought low for your purposes. Let me glorify you whether in fullness, or in emptiness, having all things, or having nothing. In 2026, let me love more, share more, risk more, and enjoy walking in tandem with you, whose yoke is easy and whose burden is light. In the precious, glorious, matchless name of Jesus the Christ! Amen! |

2 Chron 7:14 (Kay's Amplified Paraphrase)
"If My people. . . My people, called by my Name (Jehovah Yaweh, I AM that I AM), humbly pray, return again to Me, listen to Me, trust Me, yield to My will ; and if they will stop their selfish, hurtful practices; and if they will seek to care about others in the same way they do themselves . . THEN (they will know that) I hear their prayers, and I WILL answer them. I will forgive My people. I will heal My people, and I will heal their land.
